The Biomaps Project

The BIOMAPS project

The BIOMAPS project started in the 1990ies when we worked on our first world map of plant species richness (Barthlott et al. 1996). Since then, the project diversified. We continued to map and analyse plant diversity patterns at the global scale. World maps for all major groups of land plants are now available here. From 2001 to 2010 we worked within the large BIOTA Africa network [link: www.biota-africa.de] on regional to continental scale macroecological and conservation related analyses of African plant diversity in a changing environment. During the last years different papers focused on the potential threat of climate and landuse change on large scale plant diversity, large scale patterns of plant and animal endemism richness, plant diversity of oceanic islands, or the associations between plant and animal diversity.
