Ontogeny and the process of biomineralization in the trichomes of Loasaceae

New publication in American Journal of Botany

Morphological development stages of stinging hairs and scabrid-glochidiate trichomes, and their process of biomineralization in three different genera (Aosa, Loasa and Nasa) of Loasaceae indicate that the process of biomineralization initiate with the deposition of silica or calcium phosphate in the apex and then progress to the shaft and base at very early stages of trichomes development, and showed remarkably diverse pattern of biomineralization.
