Research project

I am interested in functional floral and nectary morphology and their evolution, respectively. My focus is on the evolution of floral architectures and how nectaries are integrated into those, i.e. how the nectaries integrate into the floral architecture and where the nectar is held and presented.

To understand these relations, I am working with the Geraniales, a basal rosids order and the Boraginales which belong to the lamiids comprised in the asterids clade of the angiosperms. Studying such vastly different orders helps to understand and to identify common developmental and evolutionary trajectories.
